MARCH 12 Be Brave & Create: Winter, Weekly art for ages 6-9 day 4 PM · Little Wildflowers Art Studio · Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
For more info or to register, head over to my website: www.littlewildflowersartstudio.com
A weekly art class for kids ages 6-9! We experiment with a wide variety of art mediums so the "artists" can have the opportunity to try new things. In past "Be Brave & Create" classes, we have: -learned to sew on the sewing machine -experimented with resin -created with alcohol inks -painted with acrylic & watercolor paints -use oil pastels -build with wood/cardboard/other items -make slime -use hammers & nails to make string art on wood -paint artwork on wood slices -mold with a variety of clays (air dry, Sculpey baking clay, etc) -jewelry design -clothing design -fabric dying -make wall hangings with a variety of textiles -paper mache -self portraits and SOO much more! We're always trying new things that are interesting and different from normal crafts they experience at school/church/home! My goal is to allow them to experience new mediums. To give them a direction to head in, but let them decide how they want their masterpiece to look. Each child is SO incredibly artistic in their own unique ways. In fact, we ALL are! Giving them a safe place to seek out what THEY like and what looks appealing to THEM is my passion. I do not "fix" their work to make it look "better". I do not limit the colors they can use or deny their imaginations the possibilities. Here's a perfect little story explaining what I mean. While painting an octopus in my studio one day, an artist wanted to paint flowers and a sunshine under the water. Another artist sitting next to her said, "There aren't flowers and sunshines under the ocean! You can't do that!" That was the perfect opportunity to talk about expressing their own ideas and stories and being creative. Why, a story about an octopus with a flower garden in the sunshine under the ocean sounds like a pretty good premise for a children's book, to me! If you know someone between the ages of 6-13 who enjoys making colorful messes and experimenting with lots of different art projects, they just might enjoy the art classes here at Little Wildflowers Art Studio! -Calendar of Dates for ages 6-9: January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6, 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19, April 2, 9, 23, 30, May 7, 14. MARCH 14 Free Climbs to start Currituck Beach Lighthouse's 2020 Season Free climbs on the first day of our 2020 Season! Come join us any time 9am-5pm. And we'll have a gentled mustang on site from the Corolla Wild Horse Fund from 10am-1pm (horse mood and weather dependent). Still a working aid to navigation, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse was built in 1875 to fill the remaining "dark space" on the coast. Open to the public since 1990, the tower will be open every day in season (weather permitting) 9am-5pm through December 1. Come enjoy the beautiful grounds, the 220 steps to the top, and the panoramic view of the northern Outer Banks. The smaller Victorian stick style building is the Museum Shop and is open to the public. This winter the International Chimney Corporation (ICC Commonwealth) will be staying on site to work on removing and recasting the cornice of the lighthouse roof! Children of all ages welcome to this event or any time. Children 7 and under must have constant adult supervision. We do expect about to see about 800 people at this event, so if you like the idea of a reduced rate climb (it's usually $10 a climb), consider a season's pass and come as often as you like any other day during the season! https://obcinc.org/season-passes

The Kelly's annual Saint Patrick's Day parade will be held this year on Sunday, 15 March 2020 and our detachment will be once again participating. The parade begins at 1300 and will be held in Nags Head on the beach road. This parade is very well attended by the local population, and once again, we will be leading the parade along with a joint veterans service organization color guard. This is another opportunity to let our fellow residents know that we are active in our community. Those planning on attending will meet at the American Legion Post at 302 West Lake Drive in Kill Devil Hills. A map, showing the address and the location of the American Legion Post is provided at: https://goo.gl/maps/Fh7KaDgiWY22 It is very important that if you plan on attending you arrive at the American Legion Post not later than 1200, as our transportation to the parade staging area will be departing at this time. For those unable to march the parade's one-mile route, you may still participate by riding on the veteran's float or in a parade vehicle. Following the parade, members will be transported back to the American Legion post. Members participating are asked to wear their Marine Corps League covers and detachment polo shirts. Detachment jackets may also be worn should the weather require it. Please advise me if you plan on attending so that we can look for you at the American Legion post.
